Welcome to the SHTC (Society of Holistic Therapists and Coaches).

We are a UK Based professional association of therapists and life coaches formed to represent those therapists and coaches who have externally accredited qualifications to appropriate standards. We exist to enable the public to contact appropriately qualified therapists, and to provide professional support and registration for our members.

We have range of resources that members can request by email including:

  • Access to an advice email system for professional questions and enquiries.
  • Access to discounted insurance
  • Access to practical training
  • Free online listing (you need to send the information post-application)
We now also have a more simple Yahoo based egroup newsletter and discussion list. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SHTC    to register. This enables you to stay in touch with other members and staff.

Available to members:
  • Each member will have the option of a free web listing for their practice on our sites. These will need to meet our guidelines for advertising. This enables you to have an effective online presence. This also ensures that members of the public can check that you are registered, insured and monitored by the Society by checking your online presence. A dedicated website is being designed so that you can each have your own dedicate presence online.

  • Access to (charged for) supervision. This will be provided according to individual needs as identified in the NOS you adhere to. This facility will expand as additional accredited supervisors come online.

  • Logos, Banners and Kite Marks that you can use (subject to adherence to the simple rules) on stationary and websites to show professional membership, monitoring and NOS committment.

  • Members have access to three block insurance schemes, one for members with practical training, two for distance learning only trained members.

  • Members with a level 4 qualification in counselling or psychotherapy are invited to apply to the International Society of Professional Counsellors. Membership of a dedicated counselling body may prove a major advantage in the event of HPC statutory regulation.  It would enable transfer from the membership accross to the HPC register, or access to the grandparenting scheme for HPC registration.
We are negotiating a range of special arrangements for our members with other organisations. Already we have an arrangment whereby Society members can purchase additional accredited training from Stonebridge Associated Colleges at a 10% discount (subject to terms and conditions).

Counsellors and psychotherapists
Members with a level 4 qualification are invited to apply for membership with the International Society of Professional Counsellors who recognise members with level 4 qualifications in counselling and or psychotherapy. In the event of future HPC regulation of counselling and psychotherapy it may be an advantage to be a member of a dedicated counselling body such as the ISPC, since this may enable direct transfer over to the HPC, or access to the grandparenting scheme for transfer.

Important

Please note that membership certificates should be accompanied by professional insurance certificates for your client's reference. On leaving the SHTC membership certificates must be returned, although a photocopy should be retained for your records and any portfolio of achievement. Your SHTC membership is invalid if you do not hold insurance cover.

If you are applying for a practitioner grade membership, but will not be in practice yet, or are taking a break from practice, you can be issued with a "uninsured practitioner completing study leave" certificate. This means you can benefit from membership and it's facilities and begin to build seniority, but will not be pressured to gain insurance until actually practicing.

If your membership runs out, your membership certificate becomes invalid and should not be displayed!
