Welcome to the SHTC (Society of Holistic Therapists and Coaches) Training Services.
We are a UK Based professional association of therapists and life coaches formed to represent those therapists and coaches who have externally accredited qualifications to appropriate standards. We exist to enable the public to contact appropriately qualified therapists, and to provide professional support and registration for our members. Our training consists of two parts: externally accredited training available via our colleagues at SAC, and professionally run workshop training in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Services - Workshops
Our Edinburgh based system of 6 weeks case study (over 100 hours) followed by an intensive weekend (over 15 hours) combines to provide a comprehensive and testing system of conversion from distance learning to practical trained therapist. The combination includes key areas such as National Occupational Standards knowlege & adherence, and practice sessions with a mock client (assessment, therapy and after care sessions). The SHTC insurance block policy for practical trained therapists accepts this combination as appropriate practical training for cover.
The SHTC in Edinburgh is able to provide a range of practical training workshops. These are designed to provide practical training and assessment and simulated therapy practicals. These are focused on psychological, coaching and healing therapies.

- Practitioners wishing to update skills or complete Ongoing professional Development
- Practitioners wishing to add to their hours of practical training for the membership requirements of other external professional bodies.

The weekend is held in Edinburgh, and will cost £250 (members), £275 (non members). Edinburgh is located near major transport hubs for air, rail, bus, coach and car travel. There is a range of accommodation available including very reasonable "backpacker" lodgings, many of which are self contained rooms with en suite. Please tell us if you have mobility issues so that we can ensure ground level rooms where possible.
This assessment includes:
- 6 weeks of preparation of case studies and NOS knowledge by email and telephone enabling additional preparation, guidance and additional study. If after two weeks of preparation we feel you will not pass as competent, payment will be refunded, or the weekend delayed.

Two days of assessment (15
hours) covering NOS for your therapy and practical demonstration.
- Certificates of competence for successful students in BOTH Practical Application AND NOS Competence. Two certificates are issued.
- Discount off Optional Supervision for 12 months
- 12 Months of CPD (continuous professional development credits)
Preparation is personal, and the objective is to ensure that you are prepared and confident prior to the weekend, and by the end of the weekend have been tested in a range of practice scenarios. There will be time built in for students who need extra advice and support at the weekend so that they can ask questions, practice and retest. We will build in a facility to defer the weekend if needs be, with appropriate notice, so that you only complete the weekend when you are sufficiently competent and confident. We aim for 100% success rate without sacrificing standards.
This optional is more valuable than training alone, since it tests you for 15 hours in actual practice surroundings and on the actual knowledge you will need in real life practice. You will simulate sessions, be presented with simulated case scenarios and be tested on knowledge of the National Occupational Standards. It will be challenging, but highly rewarding and we will do everything we can to ensure you are fully prepared, equipped and confident beforehand. We are used to assisting "nervous" learners, and you should not be put off by any exam pressure. Where necessary we will draw on therapeutic skills to resolve exam nerves!
Although this will NOT carry NVQ accreditation, it should be noted that the assessor is an accredited NVQ assessor in this industry and the assessments that are carried out are modeled on NVQ standards. This does not infer any NVQ award or qualification.
The combined case studies and weekend together provide enough hours for the SHTC block insurance scheme to permit you to register and insure as a practical trained professional.
